Group Work
I think pairwork and groupwork urge students to think about tasks individually more than general class.When I was junior high school student, teacher often made us do group work, especially in English class.
We have to communicate the others doing pair work and group work so it is convenient for improving Ebglish communication ability.And everyone has tasks, doing pairwork and groupwork.
But it has some problems.So We have to heed some points, when we doing it.
I think pairwork and groupwork can enjoy studying and it is easy for most students to speak more than general class.Then, it is possible that students who could understand well teach other students.However, if the number of studnts in group is too many, some students start doing irrelevant things.
So it is important that teachers instract students clearly what shoul they do.And if they make students do groupwork, they have to think right the number of students in group.
Grammar
Relative Pronouns(who, which) was the most difficult grammatical item for me as student.I think most students may feel this item is complicatedly and most teachers will think how should they teach it.So I thought how should I would teach it.
First,I ask someone "Do you have brother or sister ?" and if he/she answer "Yes",I ask "Where does he/she live ?".
Then,I write these answer,for example,"Taro has a brother."and "He lives in Morioka.",on the blackboard.
Secoundly, I ask students "How do you connect these sentences ?" Then,I can expect that they will say Using "And" will be able to connect.
And I ask students "When you think the mean of this sentence,do you think it is repetitious?"
Then I teach them that "who" is able to connect these sentences. And using "who" is more spontaneous.
Next I explain if antecedent is things,we must use "which" to connect two sentences,for example,"This book is old." and "It is written by Kenji Miyazawa."
Then I make them repeat that sentences and new words.
Japanese Junior High School
Teachers shoulder life of a lot of students and they play an important role in our life.Then who are good teachers or what are necessary factor to become teacher.Mr.M who are junior high school teacher in Morioka talked to us about some hint of such questions.
First,greeting is very important in daily life.It is fundamental for everyone and makes us jolly.It will perhaps set off understanding each other.
Secondly, counting backward from goal is essential.If we dicide the goal,we could know what should we do at that point.Predicting future of students is not so easy but profit teaching plan.
In a class,teachers must not give students idle minutes.If students have moderate task that should they do,they will don't have free time.Then they must have broad knowledge of special subject.It will help to bring out interest of students for learning.And Japanese students is usually diffident so It is important to make mood they can speak.
Teachers must do a lot of hardworking to improve myself but if they so,students will be able to benefit from them.A teacher is difficult work but full of pleasure.
Experience
Experience is important in our life.It must foster our human nature and is essential to our behavior.These days I really feel so.
To start for the basketball game I have to practice,of cource,harder and harder in practice.But,in real game,I can find new things which I can't find in practice. In that case,the sort of experience is different. I am able to gather experiences to start the game.And the experiences become confidence.
There are many things which I can't find unless I try.So we should try various things which are fifficult for us.And Challenging must develop our ability.
I think we should try various things even if we fail.Trying maybe become pabulum of our life and a experience.Therefore,we will be able to broaden our horizons.
Teaching Observation
I observed two English classes at Diamond Junior High School on Friday,June,2nd.
I observed 1st and 3rd grade class.
The goal of the 1st grade class was that students would be able to use English rightly,explain man or things by using "This(That) is~,He(She) is~",and question about man or things by using "Is this(thst)~?","Is he(she)~?".Besides answerring that question.
And The goal of the 3rd grade class was that they would be able to use and understand the present perfect(experience-the form of sentences,meaning,andhow to use.
At 1st grade class,students did "Paire work" to practice how to introduce their family or friends by using key sentences.Next,they walk around the classroom and introduced their family or friends to establish knowledge which was learned then.In addition,they did "Repetition" at key points:at "Review","Introduction of new material","New words",and"Consolidation"
At 3rd grade class,students did also "Paire work" to practice how to use the present perfect.And they often used textbook more than 1st grade students.
Teacher usually instructed about what should students do inEnglish and used Japanese as a
supporting role at both class.And,particular,at 1st grade class, when they did some activity which introduced their family or friends,she walk around the classroom and helped students who didn't do activities well.
I think that it is important considering a flow of class.That is to say,I should construct a class properly as students would be able to advance toward a goal clearly.And I felt taht there are many ways to teach English,even the way of repetition has various methods,so it is profitable for me to observe various classes.
Refrection About My Lesson
Our group felt 25 minutes was very short to teach "What do you have ~?" so we thought how we would get students to understand use of target sentences and attract interest of students to begin with.Consequently,we considered a series of flows as important so Warm-up was key point.And Practice was important to establish them use of new expression.
In the class,students played game of speaking name of food in English as Warm-up because we wanted them to be interested in English and it was so that they could say name of food smoothly when they would ask "What do you have for~?" each other at the Practice.
As they practiced new expression playing the game,they enjoyed it and tried to talk with each other actively.And some people teach others who couldn't understand very much about the incomprehensible point.So I thought Practice benefited them very much.
We attempted to explain about all contents in English as plain as possible like Mr.Hall's Spanish class.However,to explain about all contents in English troubled us from first to last.Therefore,we couldn't proceed to next component smoothly and urge the students who couldn't sound well to repeat.I felt regrets for that.So if I taught it again,I would want to proceed smoothly and make them memorize sentences rhythmically again and again.
Analysis of My Language Learning Experience
1. My most enjoyable language learning experience has been conversation with my classmates.When I entered University,I don't like speaking English very much.But I should have taken a lot of class and I had a chance using English.So, gradually, I could convey what I thought.And I enjoyed conversation with English.
2. My least enjoyable language learning activity has been structured speaking because it is not creative.I think it is inportant to learn, but I did'nt feel like doing this activity that fell into a model.
3. My most valuable language learning activity has been studying grammar rules.I thoght grammar class was so boring and if I learn grammar, I might not speak English well when I was junior high school. However, now, I realize that grammar is basics in all.
4. My least valuable language learning activity has been nothing in particular,but I feel repeating the words is not so efficient to memorize new words.
5. In general my language learning experience has been passive.Mainly, I memorized the words
and grammar and translated English sentences.So my English skill is lack of speaking.I should practice pronunciation and speaking.It is not so easy but I have to try actively.
6. What kind of influence do you think your language learning experience will have on your teaching? I have a chance to devise teaching method.So I want to contrive the method that students can enjoy learning English.
